Kids Yoga

Did you know a great way to have fun and get some good movement is through yoga? Jennifer Crews (PT) & Julie Mohler (OT) are certified through Kidding Around Yoga (KAY) and lead a monthly yoga class! Their class is a fusion of traditional Kidding Around Yoga with a heavy focus on the therapeutic aspects of yoga. Our yoga class meets the first Monday of each month at 5:00 pm (but will modify for holidays). Each class has a theme to add an extra element of fun and creativity. Yoga is a low-cost, helpful tool that can have a positive impact on children (and adults!). Here are some of the many therapeutic benefits of teaching yoga to kids:

Yoga helps kids to:

  • Develop body awareness
  • Learn how to use their bodies in a healthy way
  • Manage stress through breathing, awareness, meditation and healthy movement
  • Build concentration
  • Increase their confidence and positive self-image
  • Feel part of a healthy, non-competitive group
  • Have an alternative to tuning out through constant attachment to electronic devices

Each class has a different fun theme! There is plenty of room in our yoga studio to spread out and social distance and ensure there are 6 feet between each of our family groupings of mats. We are already looking forward to our next class coming up on Monday, July 6 with a camping theme!

This class is parent & child class; however, we will have volunteers to work with the students if a parent would prefer to sit out and watch versus participate in the class. The class is open to the community and we welcome 10 participants per class. (please indicate when signing up if you would like a volunteer for your child) Cost: All of our classes are offered for a suggested “love offering” of $5-$15 per class and are free for those who cannot afford to pay. All money collected will go straight to our 501c3 nonprofit the American Autism & Rehabilitation Foundation. Our teachers will be volunteering their time and resources to make this class happen monthly. Kidding Around Yoga utilizes yoga poses tucked into partner yoga, games, and activities, stories, KAY’s original music, and more. You and your child will sing, dance, salute the sun jog, limbo, and sail, ultimately leading to an end goal of deep relaxation and quiet time. Classes follow a similar structure, so students know what to expect and run from 45-60 minutes. Attendees may bring their own mat or use one provided.
